The Artist

EGON SCHIELE

Egon Schiele (1890 - 1918) was an Austrian artist and a protégé and close friend of Gustav Klimt.  Schiele and Klimt constantly inspired each other's works.  Regarded as one of the most radical painters of the 20th century.  Schiele unapologetically painted using his recognisable elongated, angular figures in a honest characterisation of his subjects with bold continuous lines.

Schiele a true figurative artist would keep unbroken eye contact with his life model, not taking his pencil off the page whilst he drew.  Embellishing his sketches and forms with bright colour, creating artwork with originality in his own famously celebrated artistic style.
