The Artist

GUSTAV KLIMT

Gustav Klimt (1862 - 1918) was the leading Viennese painter of the early 20th century.  Klimt influenced many artists of the time including close friend, Egon Schiele.  The widely celebrated artist is known for his decorative sensual portraits, murals and richly flourishing landscapes.

The luxurious art from Klimt's 'Golden Phase' (1907 - 1908) was adorned with gold, silver and platinum leaf, including his most famous 1908 piece 'The Kiss'.  Klimt created art nouveau masterpieces evoking sensual, elaborate and emotional artistry which made Klimt the most prolific artist of his time.
