        The Artist

        BANKSY

Banksy is an anonymous Bristol, England based street artist, political activist and film director, active since the 1990s.

His satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine irreverent wit executed in his trademark graffiti stencilling technique.

Banksy's works of political and social commentary have been featured on streets, walls, bridges of cities and art displays throughout the world.  Gaining notoriety through a range of urban stages by modifying street signs to illegally hanging his own art in institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Louvre.

Leaving his mark on cities with his signature parachuting rat and paying homage to Queen Elizabeth (during her jubilee celebrations) to graffitiing “We’re bored of fish” above a penguins’ zoo enclosure, Banksy creates street art with humour and satire with a international reputation that precedes his anonymous identity.

Most often using spray paint and stencils, Banksy has created a famous signature, immediately identifiable graphic style with a recurring cast of celebrities, soldiers, cops and children through which he critically examines current issues of political authority, consumerism and the status of art.
