  • Print Description
Vincent van Gogh’s first solo exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum 1905 was a great success among fans of modern art.  Van Gogh’s style immediately inspired the younger generation of artists to explore and partake in the modern art era. This van Gogh exhibition consisted of 234 paintings and 197 drawings.  This striking reproduction of Van Gogh's solo exhibition poster in 1905, Amsterdam, works wonderfully in vintage and modern influenced interiors.

The Artist

VINCENT VAN GOGH

Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853 - 1890) was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art.

In just over a decade, Van Gogh created about 2,100 artworks, including some 860 oil paintings. They include landscapes, still life's, portraits and self-portraits and are characterised by bold colours and dramatic, impulsive and expressive brushwork that contributed to the foundations of modern art.

Van Gogh became famous after his death and exists in the public imagination as the quintessential misunderstood genius, the artist "where discourses on madness and creativity converge".

Van Gogh's works are among the world's most expensive painting to have ever sold and his legacy is honoured by a museum in his name, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, which holds the world's largest collection of his paintings and drawings.
