The Ten Largest No.1 Childhood

by hilma af klint

From: $89.00
  • Print Description
Swedish mystic and artist Hilma af Klint created The Ten Largest No.1 Childhood in 1907 as part of a large scale series of paintings named The Ten Largest, which depicted the four spiritual ages of mankind; childhood, youth, adulthood and old age. The first in the series, The Ten Largest, No.1 Childhood is beaming with ecstatic flowers drifting against an electric, shifting blue background. af Klint showcases two concentric circles one with eight circling lilies which overlaps eight pastel pink circling blossoms. The second half of this abstract piece captivates with illegible words tumbling across the canvas like a delicate bass note. The Ten Biggest No.1 Childhood is a superb reproduction of the leading abstract artist Hilma af Klint and her alluring futuristic composition and colour theory.

You will find that our framing costs are more reasonable than your local framer, due to our business being purely online. Being online means we have lower overheads than a typical art and framing business and provides us the opportunity to pass those savings onto you, without losing any of the quality or craftsmanship of an experienced framer.

All of our frames are custom made using sustainably sourced wood and we use glass not perspex. We also offer three popular finishes of black, white and natural timber. All of our frame colours have a smooth, matte finish and have a solid structure with classic design elements that do not disappoint.

      Frame Profile

You will find that a large amount of our art encompasses a 5cm white border around the main image. We have done this to minimise additional costs associated with mat boards, which we do not supply as part of our framing process.

The Artist

HILMA af KLINT

Hilma af Klint (1862 - 1944) was a Swedish artist and mystic who hid some 1200 paintings during her active years and life.

Klint studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm for five years and lived off the income she made from her more conventional paintings (of portraiture and landscapes) whilst her 'life's work' remained hidden.  The hidden works were inspired by the Theosophical Movement founded by Madame Blavatsky a modernist search for new forms in artistic, spiritual, political and scientific systems, which resembled diagrams and visual representations of complex spiritual ideas which predate the first purely abstract compositions by Wassily Kandinsky.

Hilma Klint specified that her work should be kept secret for at least 20 years after her death. When the boxes were opened at the end of the 1960s, very few people had knowledge of what would be inside.  A considerable body of her abstract paintings were revealed and subsequently celebrated and are now exhibited at the Moderna Museet museum in Stockholm, Sweden.
