  • Print Description
Hope II was painted by Gustav Klimt between 1907 and 1908, featuring one of his favourite muses of the time, Herma. This Hope II reproduction has a gravitational quality, that draws the viewer in time and time again, through the captivating dark gold flecked - olive green background and the intricately decorative mosaic cloak in central composition. In Hope II, Herma is wearing a long cloak decorated with geometric shapes, she has her eyes closed with her brown hair framing her face as she bows hear head towards her bare breasts and burgeoning abdomen. A conflicting human skull appears to the right of her stomach – perhaps a sign of the dangers of labour. At the foot of the painting, three woman also bow their heads with hands outreached, as if also praying.  Hope II now resides permanently at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City.
