Woman with a Parasol

by paul signac

From: $89.00
  • Print Description
The Woman with a Parasol was created by iconic pointillist artist Paul Signac in 1893.  Portraiture was not a common style for Signac, however this portrait of Berthe Roblès was finished just prior to Paul and Berthe getting married. In this side profile of Berthe sheltering under her parasol Signac plays on the synchronised contrast of the colours, specifically the green and orange and the yellow and purple. Signac's inclusion of the flowers behind Berthe and the tassel that hangs on her parasol add depth to this visually captivating art print.  A superb reproduction worthy of a special place in a contemporary of vintage inspired decor.

  • Framing
    • If you choose to frame your art with us - feel safe in the knowledge that we collaborate with an expert framer, who delivers quality custom frames and has been in the framing business for over 20 years.

You will find that our framing costs are more reasonable than your local framer, due to our business being purely online. Being online means we have lower overheads than a typical art and framing business which provides us the opportunity to pass those savings onto you, without losing any of the quality or craftsmanship of an experienced framer.

All of our frames are custom made using sustainably sourced wood and we use glass not perspex in our frames. We also offer three popular finishes of black, white and natural timber. All of our frame colours have a smooth, matte finish and have a solid structure with classic design elements that do not disappoint.

      Frame Profile

You will find that a large amount of our art is encompassed by a 5cm white border around the main image. We have done this to minimise additional costs associated with mat boards, which we do not supply as part of our framing process.

The Artist

PAUL SIGNAC

Paul Signac (1863 – 1935) was a French pioneer of Neo-Impressionism who, at the age of 18 after attending a Monet exhibition decided to pursue a career as a painter.  Working alongside the iconic Georges Seurat, Signac helped to develop the Pointillist painting style (small dots of pure colour).

Signac is famed for his scientifically juxtaposed small dots of colour, intended to combine and blend not on the canvas but in the viewer's eye, the defining feature of Pointillism.  Many of Signac's paintings are of the French coast, which combined his love of sailing and painting water.  Signac painted alongside, influenced and collaborated with some of the most influential artists of the 20th century including Vincent van Gogh - who he frequently visited, Claude Monet, Odilon Redon and Henri Matisse.

Signac's impact on 20th-century art landscape was profound. His career spanned half a century until his death in Paris on 15 August 1935, and his works can be found among the world's most prestigious art institutions, including the Louvre in Paris and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
